Nine Inch Nails “The Gift” to be officially released tomorrow as the fan project “Another Version of the Truth” DVD

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Tomorrow is not only Christmas, it is the release date of the official Nine Inch Nails fan project, Another Version of the Truth live concert dvd. Last year Trent Reznor announced he had a gift for the fans, and come January he gave us the gift. Soon after, some fans got together and created the website, ThisOneIsOnUs.org where they worked together to collect the live footage, edit it (extensively) and package it for the rest of the fans.

We have been teased with snippets from the project and tomorrow it will be released in multiple formats:
iPod: 1.5GB
Playstation (1280×720): 3.5GB
SL DVD: 4GB
Apple TV (1280×720): 4.5GB
DL DVD: 6.5GB
Computer version (1920×1080): 9GB
YouTube & Vimeo streaming

I am so looking forward for this, I plan to let it download while I am off doing Christmas, and if it is downloaded by the time I get home (like I hope it will be), I will be enjoying this release by tomorrow night (keeping my fingers crossed).

Melanie Fiona – Official “The Bridge” Mixtape

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I learned about Melanie Fiona by following Questlove on twitter. I am really looking forward to hearing her album, The Bridge, when it comes out next month. Melania Fiona has a beautiful soulful voice, I could listen to her read the phone book. I’ve been enjoying the Official “The Bridge” Mixtape since July 13, now you can enjoy it too thanks to a youtube link.

Dark Night of the Soul

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Today I am listening to the new project by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse titled Dark Night of the Soul (the actual release will feature visuals by David Lynch). So far I’ve made it through 12 of the 13 tracks and I must say, I like it a lot. It is unfortunate that EMI will not let them release the album, Danger Mouse is very proud of this project and decided to side step his label and the result is an interesting way to release an album.

Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse present Dark Night of the Soul

May 29th is the release day for Dark Night of the Soul, the album is available it two forms as a pre-order, the inexpensive version features, “rare alternate 24″ X 36″poster and alternate CD-R design (poster comes folded). Please note: Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to include music on the CD without fear of legal entanglement. Therefore, he has included a blank CD-R as an artifact to use however you see fit.”

The deluxe limited version features, “This limited edition art book contains 100+ pages of original photographs by celebrated film director David Lynch. Only 5000 copies have been printed and each one is hand numbered. The book will also come with a 24″ X 36″ poster as well as a custom designed CD-R (poster comes folded). Please note: Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to include music on the CD without fear of legal entanglement. Therefore, he has included a blank CD-R as an artifact to use however you see fit.

The album has been leaked to various online sources and is available for those who know where to find music to download for free. NPR is streaming the album in it’s entirety on their website, stop by and have a listen, if you are a fan of Danger Mouse you won’t be disappointed.

I applaud Danger Mouse for his creative loophole. I can’t imagine why EMI wouldn’t want to release this album, either way I’m glad I got to hear it and I hope the artist makes money when I purchase my blank CD-R to burn it on, rather than the greedy label making money.

Looking forward to The High End of Low

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Next week Tuesday, Marilyn Manson is releasing his 7th studio album, The High End of Low. He has stated in an interview that, “Eat Me, Drink Me is opening the window and this is going to be the Hurricane Katrina.”

I really liked Eat Me, Drink Me, so I can only imagine what this album might be like. Come next week I will find out and if I like it, you can be sure I will write about in here. Until then, in celebration of an upcoming Marilyn Manson release, today I am listening to his back catalog, currently Wormboy is playing on my iTunes.

Looking forward to new Tori Amos

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

In less than a week, Tori Amos’ latest album will be released. The album is titled Abnormally Attracted to Sin. I have been listening to samples of the album on iTunes, and so far I am pleasantly surprised. Her last two studio albums, American Doll Posse and The Beekeeper, did not grab me like her previous albums have.

So far, I am very interested to hear more of Abnormally Attracted to Sin after hearing 30 second samples of the album. I have considered Tori Amos one of my favorite musicians ever since I first experienced her album Boys for Pele. I have followed her career ever since, through the ups and the downs.

If the new album turns out to be as interesting as I think it might be, you can be sure I will write about it here in the future. Remember to  support real musicians who move you.

Curious about Bria Valente

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I am anticipating Elixir by Bria Valente. Not just because she is a Prince protégé, well mostly because she’s a Prince protégé, but also because she’s got a great voice. I have heard two tracks and a snippet from her, and all 3 have sounded great. Back in the days of Prince’s 3121.com website, he featured the Bria Valente track, Here I Come. That song has been recently featured on mplsound.com.

Recently iTunes started carrying the Bria Valente track, Another Boy, from the forthcoming album, Elixir. DrFunkenBerry’s website features a snippet of the song, Home which is just as beautiful as the other tracks but features Prince on backing vocals.

According to Ann Powers from the LA Times, Prince is planning on releasing 3 albums in 2009. Tentativally titled, MPLSOUND, Bria Valente’s Elixir, and Lotus Flower. I am keeping my fingers crossed that all these albums live to see the dawn.
