Home from the Windy City
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009I’m sore, tired and had a great time in Chicago. Heading to bed early tonight, glad to be sleeping in my own bed again. There is nothing like being home after a vacation.
Yesterday the two stores that were not open on Monday, Borderline and Groovin High Records were both open. Although I came up empty handed at Borderline, I scored a copy of Missy Elliott’s second album Da Real World on vinyl at Groovin High Records.
Then we hopped a cab and headed over to Reckless Records on N. Milwaukee, I really wanted to stop there because there was a gem on vinyl waiting for me that no one else there would have wanted, Madhouse 16. I also picked up Keri Hilson’s album In a Perfect World… on CD and I took a chance on a CD because I liked the cover and it was dirt cheap, Yohimbe Brothers, Front End Lifter.
Finally we walked quite a few blocks to a store I have shopped online but had never had the chance to shop before in person, Dusty Groove America. I picked up Erykah Badu’s first album on vinyl, Baduizm. Plus I was thrilled to pick up a Dusty Groove America t-shirt. I love their logo and music selection, I wear their shirt with pride. They also put me on a waiting list for the UK release of Amy Winehouse’s second album, Back to Black on vinyl, when the get a copy in used, they will send me an email. Awesome!
Hopped a cab back to the hotel, later that night we realized we were shorted one of our purchases from Monday’s trip to Reckless Records. This morning we waited for them to open so we could stop by and see if they had the item we were shorted and sure enough they realized we paid for it but did not get it and had it waiting for us, that was really cool of them, talk about good customer service. On the way in I spotted a copy of the first Ella Fitzgerald album I ever heard all the way through, Ella Swings Lightly on vinyl, and even though it was lightly scratched, I brought it home with me because I could not leave it behind, it’s great dinner music.
It always seems to feel like it takes three times longer to get home from a vacation destination than it took to get to the vacation destination in the first place. The funny thing is, I am always just as happy to be home from vacation as I was to go on vacation in the first place.
